May Market Weekend
Preparations for summer are in full swing in Fife, as Bowhouse celebrates the soft fruits for which the region is famous at its Market Weekend on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May.
Local food producers will be ushering in warmer climes with produce fresh from the berry fields of Fife and beyond available for sale, plus activities in support of St Monans Community charity. The Anstruther RNLI will also be in attendance to promote its charity beer, brewed in collaboration with St Andrews Brewing Company.
May’s market will be jam-packed with activities for visitors to participate in. Fife Beekeepers’ Association will be in attendance to discuss the techniques and rewards of keeping bees and creating a bee-friendly environment; while the whole family will be able to get creative and design their very own bees wax with workshops from Leaf Natural Food Wraps.
Showcasing Fife’s other feature, its coast line; The Laughing Stock team will be showing visitors how to cook and dress crab at Saturday’s market, while East Neuk Seaweed will be guiding tours along the beach at Bowhouse to talk about the use of seaweed as an ingredient.
The boughs of Bowhouse market hall will be heavy with the fresh produce of over 30 of Scotland’s artisan producers; with some early season greens and grow your own kits from award-winning growers, The Wright Root, as well as homemade jams, jellies, marmalades and chutneys from Perthshire Preserves. Others taking part include local bakers Erincroft and Barnetts, charcuterie favourites, East Coast Cured, gourmet sausage rolls from Osso, handmade chocolates and a number of brewers and distillers.
As always the market’s dedicated street food quarter will feature a line-up of local musicians, with food available from Wild Fire Pizza, made to order dishes from the Caravan of Courage, drinks from St Andrews Brewing Company and more.
